When patients walk into our office, they may have broken teeth. They may have large fillings that need repair. They may have large, older fillings that are failing, that they've had for 20 years. Solutions for these situations would be crowns. Crowns, in our office, are done with some modern-day technology called the CEREC machine. This is a novel and wonderful way for patients to fix their teeth.
Why a CEREC machine is great is because, of course, we're sensitive to our patients' time. So, in one hour, as opposed to the traditional approach, which took multiple visits and several hours, we can now fix those ailments. So a patient will come into our office, and we'll prepare their tooth, and then use our technology to start and finish this procedure, in one hour or less sometimes.
And the benefits of a crown with the CEREC machine are that they're long term, long-lasting, and aesthetically very pretty. They match the color of their other teeth, and the crowns can be fabricated for multiple purposes also. If a patient is concerned about a miscolored tooth, or misaligned tooth, or a tooth in the front of their smile that really stands out, a crown is a great way to enhance their smile.
So a CEREC machine can be used in one visit. And what's great about the CEREC machine is many patients have a bad gag reflex, or don't like the taste of some of the putties that we use for our impressions, so that's not a concern anymore, a worry for our patients, because, with the CEREC machine, we take digital pictures with the camera, and from that we can manufacture a crown in that single visit.
